Digging a little bit on the details of the protocol, the Register has got it the other way: basically bittorrent has implemented over UDP another congestion avoidance algorithm that uses bandwidth less aggressively than TCP, keeping a low latency on access links even with a high usage, allowing for better latencies for gamers, VoIP and Web browsing. Reminds me of Fast TCP…

    No net neutrality issues, no trying to escape traffic control by providers…
