Bob Metcalfe at Gilder/Forbes Telecosm Conference
There was a panel after Andrew Odlyzko’s presentation that included Bob Metcalfe. He had a couple zingers:
- “The difference between dinosaurs and me is I’m still alive”
- “It looks like Ethernet will finally kill SONET”
- “The SONET equipment guys and carriers suffer from bubble-phobia. They can’t imagine spending money to fuel another bubble yet that is exactly what will happen if demand growth out paces supply.”
All I can say to that last point is please God, let there be another Bubble. I promise not to screw it up this time.
