You've missed the bigger picture with regard to EDC. EDC will become a check mark on the 10G PHY check list. If the PHY does not have it, it won't make it onto the board. With both SFP+ LRM and SFP+ copper support being mandatory, EDC is a requirement. The PHYs are becoming commoditized, eventually there will only be PHYs with EDC.

My comment was directed at Aeleros/Netlogic and the comment about their chip.

I believe cisco will de-emphasize LRM based SFP+. I bet almost all the volume will be SR.

Ciscoguy:

Nothing is carved in stone right now--we are exploring the options moving forward and seeing what customers want and what makes sense.

Andrew:

I am not sure what your question is--are you saying we have not been successful with SFP+? Could you expound a bit?

Just a quick point of clarification: the 10GbE I/O modules for the Nexus 7000 use SPF+:
http://www.cisco.com/en/US/prod/collateral/switches/ps9441/ps9402/ps9512/Data_Sheet_C78-437757.html

The platform and modules are currently orderable and we will begin shipping in calendar Q2.

My Question is that, why they seem not interested in 10G Base T ? Even new cisco nexus is not supporting this interface

Yes, I am aware of the product. My argument was that you haven't been successful with it.

Where is the product designed in?

It is always good to see vendors participating in the discussion.

Andrew,

Curious to know where you got your info that Aeluros / Netlogic does not have an integrated EDC XAUI PHY?

Care to check this release?

Good analysis and interesting points.

Cannot agree more on the GbE ports. Also 10ge optics enjoy 10G port dominance for at least 3-4yrs window of oppty.

Datacenter capital expenditure could be initial driver by the use of 10ge, but miss the point it's video content which will keep driving its capacity growth in access. I felt this during my asian trip.

I personally love to see SFP+ rising, but feel alot
overoptimistic. Is SFP+ pricing not going to be brutal without Cisco dominance? Also depending on how one mean by edc, its still enabling factor to close the jitter budget.

* good stuff.
* for some reason I'm still in the "This time is not different camp"
-- more of an emotional call than based on the "reality" that you present.
* betting against X-Base-T in the datacenter has never been a good plan. It may be deferred, but it will happen.
* The analog gods ( or firmware gods ) always seem to deliver miracles ;-)
